TOKYO: More than 35,000 software applications targeting smartphone users in Japan have been found to be dangerous due to concerns such as misuse of personal information, a study by Netagent Co., a Tokyo-based information security company, showed Wednesday.
The dangerous applications account for one-10th of about 348,000 applications running on the Android operating system the company examined from last October to March. Netagent graded the applications on a scale of five, dangerous, high (risk), medium, low and safe.
The outcome is on its website, according to Japan's News Agency (Kyodo).
The study found that some dangerous applications are designed to send a massive amount of text messages promoting dating service websites and to remotely manipulate users' websites to show certain advertisement pages. (QNA)
