DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) said yesterday that no disease-causing bacteria was detected in meat samples collected from one of the outlets of Al Meera in Al Rayyan recently.
The SCH collected samples from the meat section of Al Meera’s Umm Daum branch for laboratory tests, following a video circulated over the social media showing rotten meat reportedly bought from the outlet.
Meat samples from My Butchery that supplied meat to the Al Meera branch were also tested. The SCH said that lab results didn’t show any bacteria that can cause diseases in any of the meat samples.
The change in the colour of the meat associated with the smell, as shown in the video, was because of bacteria which does not cause diseases, said the SCH statement.
This happened due to some wrong practices in storage and refrigeration in the butchery.
The SCH urged checking of refrigerators in all commercial centres and butcheries because different types of meat have variable resistance to heat and all refrigerators must comply with the relevant standards.
They must follow the correct procedure in transporting meat in a safe and secure way, said the SCH.
