Indian artistes being honoured during a show at Ashoka Hall of Indian Cultural Centre.
Doha: The visiting artistes and dancers from India performed classical dances ‘Nrityabithi Batayan’ (comprising of Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi & Odissi) and ‘Nrityashrinkala’, a Bharatanatyam performance at Ashoka Hall of Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) on April 13.
Over a hundred people enjoyed and applauded the show. The performers from Kolkata included Kalandalam Swarnadipa Mahanta, Subha Jena and Sumanjit Chakraborty. Swarnadipa Mahanta has performed and conducted Mohiniyattam workshops at a number of European countries.
Classical dancer Subha Jena who has performed all over India under the Ministry of Culture EZCC &ICCR (Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Shilling) and even some reputed festivals in India and Sumanjit Chakraborty who initially started his training in the School of Kathak at Lucknow Gharana and later into Bharatnatyam before he completely shifted in Odissi. He is a soloist in Odissi.
The performers from Chennai included Bismillah Khan Awardee Uma Nambudripad Satya Narayanan, Vidya Ravindran Anand and Jai Quehaeni Reddy.
They are disciples of Padmashri Chitra Vishveshran and all are graded artistes with Doordarshan and ICCR. They have extensively performed in India as well as on international arena.
The President of Indian Cultural Centre, Manikantan A P, presented the appreciation plaques to all the artistes. Joint Secretary of ICC, Anjan Ganguli, welcomed the gathering and conducted the event.
The Vice-President of ICC, Vinod Nair, introduced the classical dancers to the attendees while the Cultural Coordinator Nirmala Shanmugapandian proposed vote of thanks.
