Dr Abdel Haleem Mansour wins $50,000 Islamic research award

Doha: Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) recently organised a ceremony to award prizes to the winners of Abdullah Al Darwish Award for Youth Researchers in Islamic Studies.

The theme for the first phase of the awards was ‘Plural political parties in Islamic communities: Legitimacy, rights and duties’.

Out of 56 researches in its first phase from different Arab-Muslim countries, 44 were accepted for peer review. There were 40 arbitraries who are experts in Islamic Jurisprudence and political sciences from Qatar as well as other countries.

Dr Abdel Haleem Mansour won first place with a cash award of $50,000, Badawy Mustafa won the second prize of $30,000 while the third prize was divided between Isam Helmy Tleema and Doctor Abeer Sabry Saleem — each took $10,000. Jummuah Shaban, Muhammed Mursy and Muhamed Al Sharqawy were other laureates who were given complementary prizes, $4,000 each. 

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah. It was also attended by a host of scholars and researchers from different Arabic and Islamic countries. Among them were Dr Sheikh Yousuf Al Qaradawi, the President of the Supreme Foundation of the Award and International Union for Muslim Scholars, Bader Al Darwish, the sponsor, Dr Hatem El Karanshawy, the Founder Dean of the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr Aisha Al Mannai, the Director of Sheik Muhammad Bin Hamad Al Thani Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilisation, and Dr Ridwan Al Sayyid, an Islamic Studies teaching professor at the Lebanese University. On behalf of the Islamic Universities league, Dr Jafar Abdul Salam, Secretary-General, also joined the celebration. 

Bader Al Darwish supports the educational initiatives and ventures by offering a couple of scholarships for students to study at international universities inside and outside Qatar. 

Abdullah Al Darwish Award for Youth Researchers in Islamic Studies is a universal, periodic, independent, arbitrary award that is offered in appreciation of distinguished researches tackling Quranic Sciences; Sunna and Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh).
