Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met on Monday with US Envoy to the Middle East Hady Amr.

During the meeting, they reviewed the brutal and criminal Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people for eight straight days and the human and material losses it caused.

Abbas briefed the US envoy on the dangerous situation in Jerusalem, especially in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, the continuing attacks by extremist settlers against the 48 Arabs, and the massacres of the occupation forces against the Palestinian people and the worshipers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Palestine's WAFA reported.

He also informed Hady Amr about the brutal and criminal Israeli escalation against the residents of the Gaza Strip that caused hundreds of deaths and injured and displaced thousands, stressing that the occupation government bears full responsibility.

Palestinian President underlined the need for the US administration to intervene to halt the Israeli aggression and escalation everywhere and initiate efforts aimed at reaching a political solution based on the UN resolutions and international law.

For his part, the US envoy stressed the need to achieve calm and stop the escalation, noting that President Joe Biden's administration is making efforts with the concerned parties to achieve this goal.

Amr also reaffirmed the positions of the US administration committed to achieving peace and providing equal opportunities for Palestinians and Israelis to live in dignity, security, and prosperity, stressing the importance of working for a two-state solution.
