Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority has announced updated regulations governing the carriage of power banks containing lithium batteries during air travel.
In a statement posted on social media, the authority said the revised rules are aligned with the latest guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Under the updated regulations, passengers are permitted to carry a maximum of two power banks, each with a capacity not exceeding 100 watt-hours (Wh).
The authority stressed that power banks must be carried in cabin baggage only and are strictly prohibited in checked luggage. In-flight charging of power banks is also not permitted.
Passengers are required to ensure that charging terminals are adequately protected to prevent damage or short circuits. In addition, power banks must remain easily accessible and should not be stored in overhead compartments or side storage lockers, allowing cabin crew to respond quickly in the event of an incident.
Travellers are also advised to check and comply with any additional restrictions imposed by their airlines before departure.
The authority further warned that failure to comply with dangerous goods regulations or cabin crew instructions may result in legal action.
