DOHA: Reach Out To Asia (Rota) has distributed groceries to 200 needy families in Qatar as part of Ramadan 2013 Project.

Rota’s Ramadan 2013 Project, sponsored by Oxy, started on July 13 as around 80 Rota volunteers came together to pack bulk groceries prior to three nights of distribution to the less fortunate members of society.

Among the groceries packed and distributed by the volunteers were rice, oil, milk and flour. By the time all groceries were distributed, Rota volunteers had given out basic food items for 200 families and donated 12 hours to help those less fortunate members of society.

“Rota’s Ramadan 2013 Project seeks to provide essential food items to society’s least fortunate individuals, who suffer day in and day out from their economic, social, and personal conditions,” says Rota Executive Director Essa Al Mannai.

“I wanted to help people”, said Kamran Safdar, a volunteer who took part in the distribution activity.

“Oxy Qatar is delighted once again to support Rota’s Ramadan 2013 Project, as part of its commitment to engaging with the community to help improve the lives of the less fortunate. Rota’s volunteering activities are a great example of the kind of community engagement that results in positive impact on people’s lives and we are honoured to participate in this initiative,” said Steve Kelly, President and General Manager of Oxy Qatar.
