DOHA: Qatari women over the age of 12 years will be able to get themselves registered at the Al Ahli Hospital under the National Health Insurance Scheme which will be implemented from today.
They will be covered for appointments and procedures related to maternity, obstetrics and gynaecology.
Al Ahli Hospital signed an agreement with the National Health Insurance Company on Monday, to implement the National Health Insurance Scheme together with several other private hospitals and the Hamad Medical Corporation.
The National Health Insurance Scheme aims to cover nearly 90,000 Qatari women in the country through different hospitals, will also be available for non-Qatari women married to Qatari nationals and daughters of Qatari women married to non-Qataris.
When they need to access maternity and gynaecology services they can take an appointment directly from the Al Ahli hospital currently in the network and identify themselves using their Qatar identity card, the only form of identification and verification under the health insurance scheme.
Gynaecology services provided at the emergency department, labour room, and operation theatre and at the general wards/ rooms will be covered under the scheme. Al Ahli hospital will implement the National Health Insurance Scheme for six months.
Al Ahli Hospital’s Gynaecology Department’s Out Patient section receives around 400 women and seven child births are recorded everyday.
The hospital is expecting the number of people that visit them to increase with the implementation of the first phase of the insurance scheme.
To meet this demand they have increased the number of rooms for caesarean sections and labour rooms.
CEO of Ahli Hospital Khaled Al Emadi says that in early September a new outpatient section at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology hospital will be opened, which will include 10 clinics, including some specialised ones.
The second phase of the insurance scheme will be implemented for Qatari men and women after six months, the third phase will be for nationals, non-Qataris, residents and visitors.
In the next phase workers will be covered and the National Health Insurance Scheme will be fully implemented by end of 2016.
