Qatar's Consumer Price Index for August stays at July level

DOHA: Qatar's Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2013 was steady showing no change at July level of 114.5, according to data released here by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

However a comparison of the CPI for August, 2013 with July, 2013 at major group level shows increases in the prices of the miscellaneous goods and services by 0.7 percent.

Furnitures, textiles and home appliances by 0.5 percent. Rent, fuel and energy by 0.3 percent.

There was a decrease in the prices of transport and communications by 0.5 percent. Food and beverages, and tobacco by 0.3 percent.

The year-on-year CPI for August 2013 compared with the same month in 2012 shows an increase of 3.1 percent at the overall level.

Increases were recorded in all groups with the exception of miscellaneous goods and services where prices declined by 2.5 percent.

Entertainment, recreation and culture noted major price increases by 9.2 percent.

This is mainly attributable to education related goods and services.

Rent, fuel and energy group was up by 6.9 percent caused by the rising trend in the rental of residential buildings.

A CPI exclusive of rent, fuel and energy group has also been calculated.

After eliminating the impact of rent, the overall index reached 126.2.

Showing a decrease of 0.1 percent compared to the CPI of June 2013, and an increase of 1.8 percent when compared to CPI of August 2012, the ministry report said. (QNA)
