Doha: Qatari international Khalfan Ibrahim scored his 62nd goal for Al Sadd last Saturday during a match against Al Wakrah — leveling the club record for highest goals set by Ecuadorian striker Carlos Tenorio.
The 62nd goal came in the away match from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute at Soud bin Abdalrahman Stadium.
Among the 62 goals scored by Khalfan, 12 are from penalties. He has one hat-trick against Al Sailiya back in the 2012-13 season and has also scored 12 braces in his career so far. In 156 appearances for the “Wolves”, Khalfan has scored in 48 of the games.
His first goal as a professional came against Al Shamal back in 2004, his team went on to win that match 3-1. The Qatari player was also voted as the Best Young Asian Player back in 2006 and has since gone on to represent his country in 88 games.
Khalfan is also a superb playmaker, last season he scored 14 goals and gave 11 assists which meant that altogether he helped to contribute 23 goals (one more than top goal scorer Alain Dioko).
This season he has already scored two with two assists and will be an integral part of Al Sadd’s challenge for the title this season.
Now, the Qatari only needs to score one more goal to overtake Carlos Tenorio in order to surpass the current record and become an Al Sadd legend.
This weekend Khalfan’s name could be written in the annals of Qatari football history if he can get his 63rd goal when Al Sadd take on Umm Salal on Thursday. The game will be played at the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium from 8.15pm.
