Bangladesh's dengue cases near 40,000 with 161 deaths in 2025

Dhaka: Bangladesh has logged 39 dengue-related deaths so far this month, out of nearly 40,000 confirmed cases as of Wednesday since January.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 622 new confirmed cases of dengue in the last 24 hours till 800 a.m. local time Wednesday, raising this month's total tally so far to 8,338.

The DGHS confirmed another five deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total fatalities due to dengue in the Southeast Asian country to 161 so far this year.

In August, 10,496 more dengue cases were recorded after 10,684 in July. The number of dengue cases has surged to 39,814 so far this year.

In order to curb further spread of dengue, Bangladeshi health authorities have strengthened measures to check the breeding of mosquitoes and conduct anti-larval operations.

Bangladesh logged 1,705 dengue-related deaths in 2023, marking the highest annual death toll.

The June-September monsoon period is the season of dengue fever in Bangladesh.
