DOHA: More than 75 students are benefiting from Arabic language courses organised by the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Cultural Islamic Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Tatarstan, as part of Qatar’s efforts to promote Arabic internationally and strengthen cultural and civilisational understanding.
The programmes, organised by the centre under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, began at the start of September and reflect its continuing efforts to teach Arabic to non-native speakers while introducing participants to Islamic culture and its values.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the centre is conducting a course at the Faculty of Islamic Studies at the University of Sarajevo, with the participation of 36 male and female students. The participants are studying Levels 1A and 1B through an integrated curriculum focusing on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
In Tatarstan, around 40 master’s students in their first and second years are taking part in a similar programme. The course covers the first, second and third levels according to the participants’ linguistic abilities, enabling them to develop Arabic skills for academic and cultural purposes.
The courses are being delivered and supervised by specialised instructors from the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Cultural Islamic Centre, who have extensive academic and practical experience in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. The programmes employ modern teaching methods tailored to the linguistic backgrounds and learning needs of participants.
The centre said its international programmes reflect the importance of Arabic as the language of the Holy Quran and a major channel of human knowledge, while also serving as a bridge for cultural and civilisational communication among peoples.
Through its initiatives, the centre seeks to demonstrate that learning Arabic goes beyond acquiring a language, providing participants with an entry point to Islamic culture and its values of moderation, tolerance and coexistence, and helping build bridges of dialogue and understanding between different societies.
The centre has an extensive record of conducting Arabic language programmes outside Qatar, including courses in Bosnia, Mauritius, Cambodia and Tatarstan. It has also hosted students from universities and academic institutions in Türkiye, India, Tatarstan and several regions of the Russian Federation for specialised educational and cultural programmes in Qatar.
These initiatives have enabled large numbers of learners to acquire Arabic and use it in their academic, cultural and outreach activities, reinforcing the centre’s international presence and supporting Qatar’s efforts to promote knowledge and sustainable cultural partnerships.
The programmes are aligned with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ strategic objectives of promoting Islamic culture and its civilisational values through high-quality educational initiatives.
