FRANKFURT: German engineering giant Siemens said Wednesday it has won a major contract to supply driverless metro trains to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
Siemens said that in a partnership with an unnamed local company, it had won an order for 58 four-car trains, as well as the complete equipment for two new depots.
The total value of the agreement was some 450 million euros ($590 million), with Siemens' share worth some 260 million euros, the statement said.
The trains are to be deployed on Kuala Lumpur's new MRT (Mass Rapid Transit Corporation) line which will connect the suburbs of Sungai Buloh in the north west and Kajang in the south east with Kuala Lumpur from December 2016. (AFP)
