DOHA: A first paddy field is being readied for cultivation in Qatar by a small Indian expatriate organisation. A highlight is that the unique initiative is led by a group of housewives known as ‘Backyard Garden’ (Adukalathottam). The owner of the famous Al Dosri farm in the north of the country has given away a farmland for the novel experiment of rice cultivation. The first seed will be sown in a ceremony by the Minister for Agriculture from the southern Indian state of Kerala, K P Mohanan. He is Doha on a visit, community sources told this daily yesterday.
