The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), in cooperation with the Bedaya Centre and Al Meera Consumer Goods Company, yesterday announced the expansion of the ‘National Product’ initiative. The partnership will allow national emerging companies to showcase and market their food and consumer products in the retail giant’s stores.
The initiative aims to support entrepreneurs and emerging local firms by providing them with easy access to consumers.
Under the agreement, there has been coordination with Al Meera as a first stage to showcase the products of nine national companies emerging in specific corners with the slogan ‘National Product’ clearly printed so that the consumer has easy access to it. The products of emerging national companies include hospitality, health, healthy and vegetarian food and beverages, sweets, Arab coffee, flavors and spices, nuts, milk and dairy products, and different products. The Ministry called on all licensed national companies to communicate with the ministry and express their desire to participate in this initiative, which will contribute to the expansion and development of their business.
Concerned government agencies are striving to develop local products as priorities of its strategic plans, as it is one of the cornerstones of the policy of economic diversification aimed at achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Sheikh Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, stressed that this partnership is an important step in supporting the national product and encouraging the owners of start-ups and entrepreneurs to expand their projects and increase production in line with the state’s plans to enhance the independence of the national economy and the self-sufficiency of Qatar based on its national products and its own capabilities. This initiative allows entrepreneurs, especially small business owners and licensed home business owners, to market their products more widely in major consumer markets and introduce their projects to enhance consumer confidence in their national products. This agreement will contribute to supporting emerging companies as a true nucleus for major projects and projects that will serve the national economy.
