QNA

Baghdad, Iraq: Iraq's Federal Court decided Monday to dissolve the Council of Representatives (Parliament) and transform the government into a caretaker government.

The court stated in a document that the day of the general election for the new Council of Representatives signifies the end of the Council's term and its authority to legislate and oversee the performance of the executive branch.

The powers of the Council of Ministers have been reduced from full authority to limited authority to managing day-to-day affairs, specifically making decisions and taking actions that cannot be postponed.

The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq is scheduled to announce on Monday the final results of the parliamentary elections held on November 11, which saw a voter turnout exceeding 56 percent.
