DOHA: Abu Samra check post on Qatar-Saudi Arabia border is working at full capacity as nationals from neighbouring GCC countries are coming in large numbers to take part in National Day celebrations.
An estimated over 25,000 people are entering Qatar by road through the check post, which is almost double the number witnessed during weekends.
All sections of the check point, including Passport control, customs and security check, are working at full capacity.
“More personnel from the traffic department have been deployed to check vehicles entering the country,” said Brigadier Sheikh Nasser bin Abdullah Al Thani, chairman of the Permanent Committee of Abu Samra border checkpoint.
He told local Arabic daily
Al Raya in remarks published yesterday that vehicles decorated in a way not complying with local rules are asked to remove those embellishments. “If they don’t listen to us, we don’t let them in,” said the Brigadier.
“Fortunately, however, we haven’t come across any visitor breaching our rules.”
“We have deployed enough personnel from the traffic department for follow-up work,” said the Brigadier. Traffic officials deal with vehicles that are needed for previous traffic rule violations.
Then, there are vehicles against which there are security-related complaints. Such vehicles are handed over to the departments concerned.
Sheikh Nasser said that during festivals like Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, on an average some 25,000 people, all nationals of other GCC states, enter the country daily. This is usually the inflow during National Day revelries
