Indian Coast Guard ship arriving to mark Qatar National Day

DOHA: Indian Coast Guard Ship ICGS Vijit will be making a friendly visit to Doha from Saturday to December 23, in conjunction with National Day celebrations.
ICGS Vijit, the second in the series of 90-metre offshore patrol vessels, was designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited and commissioned on December 11, 2010 in the western state of Goa.
Vijit, meaning victorious, is a projection of Indian Coast Guard’s will and commitment “to serve and protect” the country’s maritime interests.
It has 19 officers and 120 other personnel under the Command of Deputy Inspector-General Rakesh Pal, (Tatrakshak Medal) and is based at Porbandar (the birthplace of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi) in the western state of Gujarat, under the administrative and operational control of the Commander, Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (NW), Gandhinagar.
Since its commissioning, the ship has spent 600 days at sea and logged 1,01,537 nautical miles. It is equipped with the most advanced navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machineries and the sustenance and reach provide it the capability to perform the role of a command platform and accomplish all Coast Guard charter of duties.
