ISLAMABAD: Over 600 influential people including legislators and officials of the armed forces were fined for traffic violations during the current year, police said yesterday.
Violations including traffic light violations, speeding, driving without wearing seatbelt and talking on the mobile phone while driving.
Traffic police said among these people, officers from the armed forces had been found guilty of more violations than other officials.
According to statistics shared by police during the year, 282 officers — 258 from the army, 17 from the Air Force and seven from the Navy — were found involved in violations.
Legislators were the second group most often found violating traffic laws with 151 legislators 70 MNAs, 39 senators, 26 MPAs, 11 provincial ministers, and five federal ministers.
Similarly, 54 senior bureaucrats were also caught violating traffic rules. Other influential people fined for traffic violations this year included 26 judicial officials, 15 senior police officers, 13 journalists and 12 ambassadors.
Moreover, most people were fined for not wearing seat belts.
