DOHA: A total of 3,500 Qatari teachers — male and female — are employed in state-run Independent schools, a senior official of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) has disclosed.
However, there are 5,000 Qataris on administrative jobs at Independent schools, Ibrahim Rajab Al Kuwari, Director, Human Resource, SEC, told Al Sharq in an interview.
“We are keen to attract more Qatari talents. Qataris are recruited directly from the university as teachers, without tests or interview. They only need to complete a bachelor’s degree from College of Education at Qatar University,” Al Kuwari said.
A fresh Qatari graduate joining as teacher in an Independent school is put in the seventh grade with a monthly basic salary of QR14,400 along with allowances according to the Independent school regulations. There is a social allowance of QR6,400 besides housing allowance which depends on the employment of the spouse and a transport allowance of QR1,500. After three years, the teacher is promoted to a higher grade based on annual evaluation of performance. Al Kuwari said SEC plans to recruit about 1,000 teachers this year from other Arab and GCC countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Tunisia and Oman. A team will visit these countries to choose candidates and interviews are scheduled for March. The Peninsula
