Global Coaching Summit 2021 begins in Doha

Doha: Under the patronage of the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Global Coaching Summit (GCS) 2021, first-of-its-kind in Qatar and Middle East on coaching awareness and skills with participation from 11 countries began in Doha yesterday.

The virtual event which will last until March 31 is being organised by Ghaya Management Training in coordination with Dar Al Sharq as media partner.

Global Coaching Summit is an annual summit that aims to increase coaching awareness and skills in MENA region. This summit gathers many coaches from around the world and from different coaching schools to sharpen the coaches’ competencies by sharing experience, case studies and best practices.

Over 30 sessions will be held during the event in which over 20 speakers will be participating from 11 countries of the world.

Addressing the opening session of the Summit, Director of Training Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Manea Al Otaibi said that event is very special for the region.

He said that the Ministry patronises the event within its social responsibility to create opportunities for high quality training for people concerned according to Qatar National Vision 2030.

Al Otaibi said that the summit is very important which falls in line with the directive of wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on developing human resources to contribute in taking the country to new heights of development. He thanked Ghaya Management Training for organising such a fantastic event.

President of International Coaching Federation (ICF) Doha Chapter, Asma Al Kuwari, said that the summit is very important platform for exchanging ideas and discussing on coaching practice.

Giving a brief introduction of ICF, Al Kuwari said that it is a non-profit organization that works according to high standards aimed at empowering the world through coaching.

She said that Federation has been operating for more than 25 years and adopts high standards in 147 countries around the world. Al Kuwari further said that ICF Doha chapter was opened in 2019 to spread culture of coaching and empowering the State of Qatar and its residents through coaching. 

She said that ICF Doha chapter has qualified 74 coaches for training and development in various training fields according to the Federation’s system. Al Kuwari said that a dedicated website for ICF Doha chapter will be launched soon. 

CEO of Ghaya Management Training, Fatima Al Mohannadi said that the economy of Japan and Singapore witness success because they made investments in the development of human resources. 

She said that the building promising future depends on bright mind which could be achieved by making investments in the development of human resources.

“Knowledge, work and personal development is basic for the development of nation which requires real investment in human resources this is what Qatar is doing through its National Vision 2030 focusing greatly on development of human resources,” said Al Mohannadi.

She said from this very point of view, Ghaya Management Training was established in 2019 to build a culture of coaching to build individuals on different levels.

“The summit creates opportunity for scientific discussion between panelists and participants. Experts from various fields will be discussing many issues such as psychology, group coaching, team performance, culture and return on investment during the event,” said Al Mohannadi.

In a key note speech at the opening session of the Summit David Clutterbuck, a visiting professor in the coaching and mentoring faculties of four universities explained the concepts of coaching and shared his years-long experience in coaching sector.

Co-Founder of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, the oldest professional body in the field, David is one of the earliest pioneers of coaching and mentoring.

Clutterbuck provided pieces of advice to companies and highlighted conditions for a success coaching for individuals. He said that the survival of organizations in a world of constant instability depends on developing rapid response skills to change, which in turn requires that they become more effective in harnessing all the talent available to them.

Clutterbuck said that the coaching market is evolving rapidly – someone considered an effective, leading edge coach three years ago need to invest heavily in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to keep pace with the fast developments. Clutterbuck noted: “Coaches need to set clear goals at the start of an assignment. Coaching needs to be solutions focused. A good coach can coach anyone on anything. Number of coaching is a good guide to coach efficiency.”

He said that a coaching and mentoring strategy is an integrated and planned approach to build organizational competence to coach and mentor internally.
