Sri Lankan Women’s Association Qatar (SLWAQ) recently held its inaugural beach cleanup at Al Wakra Beach, with the support of family and friends.
The volunteers and members of SLWAQ made a day out at the beach clean-up with refreshments and events planned out for kids.
“Majority of the littering was plastic bottle caps and cigarette butts. As non-perishables, I find it unacceptable how people can be so negligent. We all have a responsibility towards protecting and preserving.
Throughout everything we do at SLWAQ, sustainability is a common thread. We’re trying our best to address Qatar’s needs for long-term social and economic growth by making sure we remain environmentally sustainable,” said Farook, president of SLWAQ.
She also thanked sponsors, members, families, and friends who contributed to the campaign focused on keeping trash out of the ocean.
An affiliate of the Sri Lankan Embassy, SLWAQ is a platform that supports and empowers Sri Lankan women from different walks of life living in Qatar.
President of SLWAQ Farook and Vice-President Ishani Sandanayake aim to ultimately reach out to women of all nationalities.
