DOHA: The Doha Centre for Media Freedom’s (DCMF) Media and Information Literacy Programme held its ‘annual award media excellence’ at the Hilton-Doha yesterday.
Held for the first time, the event aims at encouraging media literacy among school students. A total of 300 students received special training on media literacy, prior to the awards ceremony.
The Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council H E Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud and Director of Doha Centre for Media Freedom Jan Keulen handed over the awards.
DCMF’s Media and Information Literacy Programme aims to enhance comprehension and assessment of news. School news programme in media literacy helps students, teachers and coaches to have their own school video report. Students learn in the workshop the nature of the news as they plan their report. Some students work independently to portray the news. They learn how to plan for the report, and how to operate the camera on display techniques and interviewing.
The best producer chosen is from the report Teacher of the Month by Al Hekma International School Mamoura, best director was given to the report Sowaika by Al Ahnaf Bin Qais Preparatory School for Boys.
The best camera woman chosen for Length of School Hours by Maimoona Pimary School for Girls, best journalist was awarded to a report on Freedom of Speech by Abdurrahman Bin Jassem Preparatory Secondary School for Boys.
Appreciation award from the Media and Information Literacy Programme was won by Al Khor Model School for Boys.
