DOHA: The International Chamber of Commerce Qatar (ICC Qatar) yesterday announced it will organise its first banking workshop titled “Documentary Credits in Today’s Challenging Environment by Gary Collyer” on May 23 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha.
The two-day event is organised under the patronage of Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber and ICC Qatar. The event is sponsored by QNB as strategic sponsor and Ahli Bank as gold sponsor.
Sheikh Khalifa said: “International trade is constantly evolving and the framework of rules must keep track, adjusting to changing conditions and meeting new requirements. Our ICC Qatar Banking Commission is currently working close to the ICC International Secretariat to overhaul the rules in a number of different fields, such as international standard banking practice, and we felt it was important to bring to Doha a workshop to share the best practice in this domain.”
“Trade Finance is no longer a simple process of document examination and handling, and it is paramount for banks and trade finance operators to keep up with the fast evolution of this subject” he added.
The workshop will look back at the past 12-18 months to highlight the issues, actions and decisions that have occurred in that time, and will examine best practices that should be adopted when issuing, advising, confirming, amending, presenting and examining documents, as well as honouring or refusing documents.
Ahmed Al Sheeb, Chairman ICC Qatar banking commission, said that QNB is committed to sponsoring important events of this nature, which showcase best international practice and contribute positively to the development of the economy.
The topics chosen for discussions are all in line with the requirements to assist in the realisation of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aligns with QNB Group’s vision that aims at building a knowledge based society”.
