Doha: Several debaters from DPS- Modern Indian School recently attended a virtual workshop on ‘Social justice in South’ with their coach Jaya Majumder. The event was organised by QatarDebate.

The debaters include Anah Merchant, Drishti Tibrewal, Vaidehi Rogiye, Geetika Yalamanchilli, Antara Alurkar, Manjushree Magesh, Asin Ashraf, Ishita Golash, and Sharvi Patwardhan.

The resource person Pragyan Acharya from Nepal, briefed the attendees on the evolution of social justice in South Asia, specifically India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

He explained the colonial history, invocation of the spirit of activism, various protests during colonial times, and the freedom struggle movement. There were also references to the recent protests that continue in the spirit of gaining social justice.

It was an educative session that would surely help the debaters in their future debates.
