Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has identified employees of an organisation as the weakest link in the cybersecurity chain, warning that cyberattacks and online scams continue to pose significant risks to individuals and organisations.

The Ministry therefore urged the importance of cybersecurity awareness among employees and the general public. In an awareness webinar yesterday, MOI officials highlighted key information security principles, including confidentiality, integrity, and availability, stressing that employees remain the first line of defense against cyber threats.

The ministry noted that a single act of negligence could lead to data breaches, financial losses, operational disruptions, and reputational damage. The programme addressed a range of cyber threats, including phishing, ransomware, malware, social engineering, and denial-of-service attacks.

Participants were advised to remain cautious when handling emails, links, attachments, and requests for sensitive information.

Lieutenant Yousef Ashraf Al Mulla from the Ministry of Interior emphasised that the Ministry does not conduct video calls to request personal information and urged the public to verify any suspicious communications through official government channels.

He added that individuals who receive suspicious messages, pop-ups, or calls claiming to represent the ministry should immediately report them to the Cybercrime Prevention Department.

The ministry also encouraged the public to seek guidance from cybersecurity specialists if they suspect malicious activity or require advice on preventing malware infections and ransomware attacks.

Citizens and residents were urged not to pay ransoms demanded by cybercriminals and instead report incidents to the relevant authorities.

Lt Al Mulla further stressed the importance of strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, regular software updates, data backups, and avoiding the disclosure of sensitive information in public settings or through unverified digital platforms.

The awareness campaign forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Qatar’s cybersecurity culture and equip individuals with the knowledge needed to identify, prevent, and respond to cyber threats effectively.
