LAHORE: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide Pakistani government with $150m for refurbishment and upgradation of Mangla hydel power station.
In this regard, USAID Mission Director Gregory C Gottlieb and Wapda Chairman Syed Raghib Abbas Shah signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).This grant funding will be provided to the government of Pakistan and implemented through the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda).
Under the MoU, the USAID will fund the refurbishment of two generators and modernisation of the auxiliary equipment of the power house - which will be completed within five years, and add 70 megawatts to the Mangla hydel power station’s operating capacity.
In addition, this will also give a boost to the life and reliability of the plant for the next 40 years.
