Khartoum: The Arab League has praised the role played by Qatar in support of peace process in Darfur.

This came in a statement by the Arab League’s envoy to Sudan Ambassador Dr Salah Halima in which he said Qatar’s political, financial and diplomatic role deserves the utmost respect.

Speaking to Sudan News Agency, he noted the efforts that are being carried out by Qatar’s mediation and the joint African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) to persuade the armed movements to join the Doha Peace Document, describing them as positive and direct.

The Arab League official condemned the attacks carried out by armed movements against innocent citizens as well as the destruction and burning of villages. Dr Halima lauded the continuous efforts of Sudan’s government to achieve peace in Darfur, noting that the conflicts have negative impacts on the situation in the region. QNA
