Many Metro Manila areas face flooding

MANILA: Several areas in Metro Manila may be hit by flooding as heavy rains are expected to continue over the capital region until 5pm yesterday. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its Yellow Rainfall Advisory that flooding is possible in low-lying areas in Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela), Pasay City, Paranaque City, Taguig City and Pasig City.

18 cops sued over extortion

MANILA: Three Koreans —two men and a woman — filed charges against 18 police officers before the Department of Justice yesterday for allegedly extorting P.5m from them and three others last July 12. Young Suk Lee, 22; Sang Don Lee, 32, and Jung Hun Yang, 29, claimed they and their three friends were terrified when the police officers brought them to the Regional Police Intelligence and Operating Unit headquarters at Camp Bagong Diwa and detained them until their friends came with money for their release.

93 farmers given animals 

NORTH COTABATO: Provincial officials led the initial dispersal of farm animals to 93 farmers in Midsayap town hit by man-made and natural calamities. The beneficiaries from 11 districts in Midsayap, home to mixed Moro and Christian communities, received 123 heads of cattle and more than 100 goats, which they can breed both for dairy and meat production.
