Jammu: The army evacuated 33 people from a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after it was flooded by the rising waters of Basantar river, a defence ministry statement said yesterday.
Flood relief columns of the army on Saturday reached Rangor village in Ramgarh area along with relief equipment and evacuated the villagers, including women and children, to safer places, the statement said.
The flood caused extensive damage to crops and properties, it added.
Due to incessant rain, the water level in the Basantar increased by up to 18 feet.
