DOHA: Spa businesses in Qatar would receive a major boost with the first-ever Spa Concept Conference, another signature event of Diyafa 2012 and serves as a highlight today before the expo draws its curtains close.

The spa market is consistently showing strong growth rates within the industry. From urban spas to hotel spas, business people across the country are starting to wake up to the possibility of owning, designing and operating their own spa business. With the right expert guidance, which the Spa Concept hopes to provide, spa businesses in Qatar could receive a major boost.

“Regardless if someone is deep within the spa industry, if they are just looking into it, or whether they work in a related service industry, this one-day conference should be their destination,” said Raquel Calleja, the international spa consultant orchestrating the first-ever conference of its kind in Qatar. Topics include new media marketing techniques, best practices, training and age-old questions about wellness and care.

“The Spa Concept tackles hot issues while providing a stage for experts to share their opinions, ideas, and sometimes very different perspectives. It’s a must-attend event, and I am so happy to be organising it for Qatar,” added Callejas.

With hundreds of hospitality service outlets vying to gather the most votes, Doha has been abuzz with news and information about the Qatar Choice Awards yesterday. Over 12,000 votes in 26 categories were cast during the voting period making Qatar Choice Awards’ first public foray a success. Another contest in the public eye during Diyafa is the perennial favourite, Salon Culinaire 2012 edition which attracted more chefs than ever before, and the first two days of the competition yielded a wide selection of winners who showcased amazing skills to be highlighted as one of Qatar’s best.

Sarah Mroueh, Lead Project Manager at Diyafa, said: “This year’s entries are competitive, and it is clear to see that the chefs have put in many hours to prepare themselves. It’s the country’s only culinary competition, and the type of contestants and talent on display has added credibility to the competition, thus resulting in higher-profile contestants.”

With local, regional and international exhibitors gathered under one roof, the exhibition attracted on Day 1 and Day 2 hundreds of visitors that explored the latest products and services on display.
