DOHA: Several men were arrested for illegally hunting birds and five devices they were using were seized in the northern areas, officials from the Ministry of Environment said yesterday.
The arrests come as a result of the ministry’s ban on using any tools that attract birds in large numbers and their illegal  sale, reported Al Sharq.
The bird call whistles are used by hunters to attract different species by mimicking their sounds and once a large number of birds flock to a whistle, the hunters catch them and sell them illegally.
The ministry has also announced that the hunting season for migratory birds and wild animals for 2014-2015 will continue until May next year, and specified the species to be hunted and tools allowed in the hunting. The Peninsula
