DOHA: A two-day Korean Flower Art Show opened yesterday at Grand Hyatt Hotel held in the run-up to the celebration of 40th year of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Korea.

“Next year is the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the State of Qatar, and the embassy plans a variety of cultural activities for this memorable occasion. The Korean Flower Art Show is a foretaste of the upcoming events to introduce the Korean culture and heritage to Qatar,” said Korean Ambassador Chung Keejong.

Some of Korea’s masters of the art of flower arrangement mesmerised guests at yesterday’s event as they turned ordinary flowers into outstanding works of art. The floral artists shared this extensive experience in the art to the guests through lectures.

Hosted by the Korean Embassy, the event is sponsored by Korea Flower Art Association (KFAA) and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Foreign Office.

Lim El-Lim, chairman of KFAA said the floral show aims to inspire national pride in Koreans living in Qatar as well as make a significant contribution toward improving the country’s image in the Middle East region.

“Through the exhibition, we hope to open a new chapter for bilateral cultural exchanges to promote Korea’s blooming floral culture in the Middle East,” she said.

Flower arrangement demonstrations by expert floral designers will continue from 10am today at the hotel lobby.
