DOHA: Qatar Fuel Additives Company (Qafac) is totally committed in taking all needed measures to fight climate change. “All our efforts are completely aligned with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and Qatar’s National Development Strategy 2011-2016,” said Nasser Jeham Al Kuwari, General Manager of Qafac, during the sidelines of the 2nd Doha Carbon and Energy Forum, organised under the patronage of H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser at QNCC.

Qafac took a remarkable part in the forum by being a platinum sponsor in the event. “Our priorities are to find environmental solutions with a sustainable approach. We are collaborating with various academic institutions and research groups to find solutions for emerging environmental challenges.”

Al Kuwari referred to a memorandum of understanding recently signed between Qafac and Green Gulf Inc under which both parties will be working together to identify and develop projects of mutual interest such as the integration of solar into Qafac-affiliated projects, carbon capture to serve as feedstock for Qafac’s methanol production stream and waste-to-energy solutions specially focused on process engineered fuels, and deploying methanol powered vehicles in Qatar.

Referring to the CO2 enhanced oil recovery discussed theme at the forum, Qafac is constructing the first CO2 recovery plant in the world for the enhancement of methanol production. This QR291m  project is set to go online in the third quarter of 2014 and once commissioned, it will recover 500 tonnes per day of CO2 from existing methanol plant flue gases.
