Second International Conference on Traffic Safety to be held in March

Doha: Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, the Ministry of Interior, represented by the National Committee for Traffic Safety, and Qatar University (QU), represented by the Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center, together will organise the Second International Conference on Traffic Safety on March 21 and 22, 2022.

The General Directorate of Traffic, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will participate in organising the conference with the support of international partners represented by the International Road Federation, World Conference on Transport Research Society, and the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences.

The conference, which is held under the slogan ‘Towards a safe and sustainable global transport and traffic system in developing countries’, will discuss a number of traffic issues, including transport safety, public transport, the intelligent transport system, traffic flow analysis and control, road engineering design, driving behavior, multimodal transport systems, ways to reduce traffic injuries, emergency services, sustainable transport and its economics, vehicle technology, and other related issues. 

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the President of Qatar University and Chairman of the Conference’s Steering Committee, Dr. Hassan Al Derham, said, “The goal of this conference is to discuss topics related to traffic safety and provide opportunities for dialogue and discussion at the global level for issues related to the present and future of road safety, particularly after the C-19 pandemic that clearly affected mobility behaviors.”

President of Ashghal, Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, asserted the importance of this conference and the role of Ashghal in raising traffic safety and improving traffic flow through implementing efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly infrastructure projects on par with international specifications, design and construction standards.

Ministry of Transport Acting Assistant Undersecretary of Land Transport Affairs Eng. Hamad Essa Abdulla affirmed that traffic safety is receiving wide attention from the state in general and by the ministry in particular. Hamad Essa said that the conference will enhance engineering principles in the fields of transportation engineering, including transportation planning.

Director of Public Health Department at the Ministry of Public Health, Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani affirmed that the concerted efforts of all key partners are to ensure safety on the roads, reduction in the number of traffic accident victims, the development of services provided to those injured, and the best treatment in the fastest time.

Secretary of the National Traffic Safety Committee and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Malki also indicated that this conference is an important event because it is an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences with different countries of the world. 

Director-General of Traffic Department and member of the Conference’s Steering Committee, Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah Al Shahwani, affirmed that the organization of an international conference on traffic safety is an indication of the extent of the attention paid by the country’s supreme leadership to the issue of traffic safety. 

Director of the Qatar Center for Transportation and Traffic Safety at Qatar University, Dr. Mohammed Al Qaradawi, said, “What distinguishes this conference is the availability of special issues of prestigious international journals to publish an outstanding research paper that will be presented at the conference.
