DOHA: The 15th round of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) which begins tomorrow is expected to be the most intriguing leg so far this season as the top six teams, eyeing an improvement in the points table will battle to topple their closest opponents.
The last round saw Al Sadd, who led the points table for most of the season slipped to second spot after a shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of Al Shahaniya, lying 13th of the 14-team competition. Defending champions Lekhwiya took top spot on basis of a better goal-difference as both teams have 33 points each after 14 matches respectively.
Hussain Amute’s Al Sadd will not just look to win but they will target a victory by a huge margin when they will host Al Kharaitiyat to better their goal difference.
On the other hand, Michael Laudrup’s Lekhwiya will hope for the same in their home leg against Al Khor, to enjoy a second week on first position.
Occupying the third position with 23 points, Umm Salal will look to close gap with the top two QSL sides when they take on El Jaish.
On the other hand, the armymen, having secured 22 points so far are eyeing a victory to regain third position from their opponents tomorrow.
Umm Salal’s Assistant coach Thamer Abdullah said his team will go all the way to ensure his side stays on the third place.
“The QSL has been strange these last two rounds,” said Abdullah.
“We won one game and we came back to the top four. The game against El Jaish will be very difficult but we need to win this game and take three points in order to stay in third place in the rankings. We want to end on a high specially because of the break.” El Jaish coach Abdelkader Megaseeb dubbed the game as important.
“The game against Salal is very important for us. We need to get back to winning ways before the break. El Jaish will do everything it can to regain the position it deserves.”
After four matches in round 15 tomorrow, a total of three games of the stage will be played on Saturday.THE PENINSULA
