DOHA: A total of 3,045 people in Al Shamal benefited from events and first aid lectures under ‘I Am a Paramedic’ training programme organised by Qatar Red Crescent’s (QRC) Al Khor branch.
During the second phase of the health exhibition held by Al Khor Primary School for Girls, QRC had a corner to introduce students to its mission of serving Qatari and other societies around the world, deliver a lecture on asthma, distribute health education handouts, and conduct free blood pressure and sugar tests for over 100 participants.
The branch held training courses for 36 students of Abdullah bin Ali Al Musnad Independent Secondary School for Boys, 64 of Al Khor Model Independent School for Boys, and 45 of Abdullah bin Ali Al Musnad Independent Preparatory School.
They received theoretical and practical training in first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation; how to deal with suffocation, bleeding, injuries, fractures, burns, epilepsy, asthma and poisoning; and techniques of moving injured people.
The branch co-organised a two-day ‘Safe Journey’ exhibition at Al Shamal Sports Club and Simaisma Youth Centre, in partnership with the Community Policing Department, the Traffic Department and Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme (COP).
A QRC corner informed the public about the basics of first aid that must be offered to the injured and road safety guidelines.
QRC ambulance vehicles and medical workers distributed informative brochures, gifts, and first aid kits and performed free medical check-ups for over 1,000 participants.
Under ‘Together for Benevolence’ campaign implemented by QRC volunteers with QR750,000 funding from Chevron Philips Chemical Qatar for 23,000 expatriate workers, the branch distributed hygiene kits and water bottles to 300 municipality workers in the public cleaning, insecticides and sewerage departments.
The branch took part in the fifth annual ‘Safe Spring’ festival organised by the Community Policing Department in cooperation with COP, Ministry of Interior departments and 50 civil society organisations and companies in Al Shamal.
During the four-day event, QRC volunteers and medical staff informed the public about QRC activities and programmes, recruited new volunteers and performed physiology tests for nearly 1,000 visitors.
QRC and Al Khor Cultural Centre also held a three-day Al Khor Spring Festival on Safa Al Touq corniche. QRC’s corner provided medical and educational services to over 500 people.
