Doha: The Japanese J. League and its Qatari counterpart the Qatar Stars League (QSL) continued to develop their ongoing relationship this week as a J. League delegation visited the QSL’s headquarters at Al Bidda Tower on Tuesday.
Afterwards, the two-man delegation went to the Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium to watch the AFC Champions League match between QSL team Al Sadd and Uzbek side Lokomotiv, which ended with an emphatic win 6-2 win for the home side.
J. League Managing Director Daisuke Nakanishi and Takeyuki Oya, from the J. League’s Asia Office, arrived in Doha on Monday. During their short trip, the Japanese delegates also visited the world-famous Aspire Academy facilities at Aspire Zone.
The main aim of the Japanese delegation’s Qatar visit was to discuss ways to increase cooperation between the J. League and the QSL.
An agreement was reached to draft a memorandum of understanding between the two football leagues. The two leagues will aim to assist each other in areas of football development, league development, knowledge sharing, ways to best utilise the World Cup for the development of the domestic league, etc.
AFC commends QSL and QFA
Doha: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has sent a letter of appreciation to the Qatar Football Association  (QFA) for successfully organising the recent AFC Regional Competition Workshop (West Asia) that took place in Doha last week.
The AFC also thanked the Qatar Stars league (QSL) for its professional organisation of the event, which was held at the InterContinental Hotel here. It was an opportunity for various confederations from West Asia to learn the best practices in match competition and football facilities management.
Speaking at the launch of the workshop, Shin Mangil, AFC’s Director of National Team competitions, said: “It is a great pleasure to be working in conjunction with the QSL on this workshop. Qatar is known as a centre for sports in Asia and has a rich history in running major tournaments; this made Qatar the best possible location to hold the workshop for the AFC.”
The workshop covered three key areas: infrastructure regulation, match operations and
safety and security.
