Mild earthquake jolts Baluchistan

Islamabad: A mild earthquake hit parts of Dalbandin and adjacent areas in Baluchistan of Pakistan in the early hours yesterday. The meteorological department said the epicentre of the quake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, was in the northwest of Dalbandin.  On Tuesday, dozens of people were killed and injured in Baluchistan when a powerful earthquake in Iran hit the border area of Pakistan. Forty-one people died when the earthquake jolted Mashkel, levelling mud houses. More than 12,000  people were also affected.

Four rebels die in Afghanistan

Kabul: Four Taliban insurgents were killed and four arrested during operations by Afghan security forces and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours in different regions of the country. ISAF said in a statement issued yesterday. ISAF said operations were carried out in the provinces of Kandahar, Samangan, Nuristan and Uruzgan.

Four civilians killed in Karachi

Karachi: At least four people, including a woman, were killed in different firing incidents in Karachi yesterday. The woman died in Fakera Ghoth, while three bodies were recovered from different areas the city, Dunya News said. The bodies were stuffed in gunny bags and it appeared they were killed after being kidnapped. The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. They were yet to be identified.

Strong ties with India urged

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India should remove non-tariff barriers to boost bilateral trade, as these are the main impediments to cross-border trade, S M Muneer, President of the Indo-Pak Chamber of Commerce and Industry said yesterday. “Pakistan should consider granting early most-favoured nation status to India, as it would greatly help increase trade between both countries.”             agencies
