Doha: Qatar Fuel Additives Company (Qafac) celebrated World Environment Day 2014.
The event included an  on-the-spot drawing competition  for children on the theme ‘Raise your voice, not the sea level’.
The contest was held on June 13 at Oryx Rotana Hotel, Doha, attended by more than 250 people, including children, parents and the Qafac management team.
Eighty contestants produced excellent artworks reflecting the theme.
A panel of judges from local schools supervised the competition. Nine winners from different age groups were selected and awarded at a ceremony. The event was organised by the HSE Department, which also showed videos on environmental issues.
Officials briefed the audience on the theme and how significant it is to make the young generation aware of consequences of global warming.
The theme was in line with the UN General Assembly’s decision to designate 2014 as International Year of Small Island Developing States. It’s a diverse group of more than 50 low-lying coastal communities or territories,  their successes and unique development challenges they face.
