Doha, Qatar: Chery TIGGO9 Super Hybrid successfully passed a rigorous internal 32 km/h side pole impact test conducted in full compliance with Euro NCAP testing protocols, validating its passive safety performance, high-voltage system protection, and post-crash rescue accessibility. The outstanding results reaffirm Chery’s product philosophy that “safety is the ultimate luxury.”

Side impacts represent one of the most demanding safety challenges in vehicle engineering. With extremely limited crumple zones available, the side structures— particularly door beams and B-pillars—bear the primary responsibility for impact force absorption. This necessitates exceptionally complex energy management designs and enhanced structural strength requirements in these critical areas. The situation becomes even more challenging in pole impacts, where the minimal contact surface between the rigid pole and vehicle body creates extreme localized stress concentrations. These high-pressure points result in significantly greater intrusion deformation, consequently demanding more advanced protection solutions for both the occupant compartment and battery pack in modern electric vehicles.

In the recent side pole impact test, TIGGO9 was propelled sideways at 32 km/h against a rigid pole with a diameter of 254 mm. The impact was directed at the driver’s side door, one of the most vulnerable areas in crash scenarios. Remarkably, both front-seat crash test dummies showed no significant injuries to critical body regions, validating the vehicle’s outstanding protective capabilities. The comprehensive test results revealed TIGGO9’s multi-layered safety approach. The passenger compartment maintained excellent structural integrity with minimal intrusion measurements across A-, B- and C-pillars, while all doors remained securely latched throughout impact—effectively preventing occupant ejection, a critical safety consideration in side impacts.

The restraint systems performed with precision timing, as side airbags, curtain airbags and far-side airbags deployed within milliseconds to create protective buffers. These systems effectively isolated the driver from interior trim components and side windows while significantly reducing secondary impact between front occupants. The seatbelt pretensioners activated instantly, and seat structures remained intact throughout the event. In full compliance with global EV safety standards, the high-voltage system immediately severed power upon impact.

The battery pack maintained stability with no displacement, electrolyte leakage or thermal runaway. The intelligent emergency response system automatically deployed non-impact side door handles for emergency egress and activated hazard warning lights to assist first responders.

True vehicle safety extends far beyond brute structural strength—it’s about creating intelligent protection that safeguards occupants when collisions occur. TIGGO9’s successful performance in Euro NCAP’s demanding side pole impact test demonstrates its comprehensive safety technology matrix.Built on Chery’s advanced T2X platform and engineered to global five-star safety standards, TIGGO9 features an innovative “cage-style energy-absorbing capsule” body structure with optimised crash energy management. This sophisticated architecture incorporatesa network of two horizontal and three vertical load paths for frontal impacts with six strategically positioned crash boxes as well as a dual-layer side impact absorption system.
