Participants at the second Annual ITS and Road Safety Forum Qatar 2013 which concluded yesterday.
DOHA: Intelligent Traffic System is a suitable way to ensure road safety, according to experts at the second Annual ITS and Road Safety Forum Qatar 2013.
Jamal Shareeda Al Kaabi, Director, Central Planning Office, gave a presentation on the increasing need to implement an effective ITS in Qatar, keeping road safety as the primary goal.
“Road safety should come first, and this can be achieved by effective ITS implementation.”
The three-day annual event attracted around 300 participants and over 20 exhibitors. A driving simulator was on display, initiated by Maersk Oil, as part of the One Second campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior.
Jassim Al Thani, head of Qatarisation at Maersk Oil, said: “Changing the driving behaviour in young adults in Qatar is crucial. We are hoping to instil responsibility in driving behaviours among children aged 12 to 18 by introducing a simulator which will be taken to every school in Qatar very soon, as part of Maersk Oil’s CS-Road Safety Programme.
“The simulator will provide a general driving experience to help young adults experience differences in traffic intensities and feel the impact of accidents.
“This should encourage Qatar’s youth to educate themselves and take the right measures while they are on the road”.
