DOHA: Morocco and the Netherlands will lock horns in one of the standout fixtures of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 when they meet at Monterrey Stadium tomorrow.

The knockout clash, scheduled for 4:00am (Qatar time), promises an intriguing contest between two unbeaten sides that topped the group stage with impressive performances and now aim to continue their journey toward the latter stages of the tournament.

Morocco advanced as runners-up in Group C with seven points, finishing level with Brazil but settling for second place on goal difference. The Atlas Lions capped off their group campaign with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Haiti, extending their unbeaten run to three matches.

The Netherlands also collected seven points to finish top of Group F after recording two wins and a draw, sealing first place with a victory over Tunisia to set up a mouthwatering encounter with the North African side.

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi believes his players have grown throughout the competition but stressed that the challenge posed by the Dutch will require a different approach.

"In the last three matches, we showed that we are capable of producing good performances and that we have a strong personality on the pitch," Ouahbi said. "But tomorrow's match is different and requires different solutions. That is the mentality with which we will enter the game."

The 49-year-old insisted Morocco will remain faithful to their footballing identity while adapting to the demands of knockout football.

"We have accumulated important experience throughout the tournament," he said. "The next stage requires a new reading of our opponent and the search for appropriate solutions while maintaining the identity we have shown since the start of the competition."

Ouahbi also acknowledged the threat posed by Dutch striker Brian Brobbey, who has already scored three goals in the tournament, but stressed his team's preparations are not centred on stopping one player alone.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, are approaching the fixture with equal respect for their opponents. Head coach Ronald Koeman dismissed suggestions that his side are favourites despite finishing first in their group.

"I'm not sure if we're the favourites in the match against Morocco," Koeman said. "It's a good team with a lot of quality and they can score easily."

Koeman believes both sides have the quality to progress deep into the tournament, making the early knockout meeting an unfortunate pairing.

"It is actually a shame that the match is taking place already, because we are two teams that normally should advance in the tournament," he said.

Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk also expects a stern examination, describing Morocco as "a great team with a lot of footballing quality," while midfielder Frenkie de Jong praised the Atlas Lions after watching their performances during the group stage.

With both teams unbeaten, separated by just one place in the FIFA rankings and boasting attacking quality on both sides, Tuesday's encounter is shaping up to be one of the most compelling Round of 32 ties, with a place in the last 16 at stake.
