Doha: Qatar, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), will take part in the 38th session of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) General Assembly meeting in Montreal, Canada, from September 24 to October 5.
CAA Chairman Abdul Aziz Mohammed Al Nuaimi, who will head the Qatari delegation, has stressed the significance of participating in the event to highlight Doha’s role within the organisation and its efforts towards security, safety, environment and international cooperation.
In a statement, Al Nuaimi highlighted Qatar’s keenness to develop the civil aviation sector through investment in infrastructure of aeronautics and its affiliated sectors to become one of the active economic players in terms of revenue and number of jobs provided in the economic sector. He pointed to the growth in air transportation in Qatar through Doha International Airport, projecting a 7 percent growth in the current year and said the number of passengers will surge by 6 to 7 percent compared to last year. He said these figures will largely double after the opening of the Hamad International Airport. The meeting’s agenda has about 60 issues, on top of which is the election of a new board, general assembly president and heads of various committees. QNA
