Over 400 erring outlets issued warnings

DOHA: The health monitoring unit at Doha Municipality shut down two eateries and a supermarket during last month for failing to comply with the health regulations. At least 411 erring outlets were issued warnings to rectify the errors in a given timeframe. The civic inspectors made 3,192  inspection tours during the month, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.

More than 382 tonnes of foodstuffs including meat, fish, canned food, dairy products, pastries, juices, cold drinks, fruits, vegetables, dry fruits and sweets were destroyed, after they were found unfit for human consumption.

Some 87 samples of food items were taken to the laboratories for test, only one sample did not meet the specifications, 54 were found fit and remaining are being tested. Doha Municipality issued 13 new licences for shops including a grocery shop, four cafeteria, two eateries, two barbershops, two beauty salons and a massage center. The municipality received 70 complaints from the public, on which necessary actions were taken, said the daily.
