IEEE conference explores raising quality of life

DOHA: The seventh GCC conference of the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), which will reflect on the emerging technology and rapid changes that are occurring in the Gulf region, opened yesterday. 

The three-day conference is held under the theme, ‘Towards Improving Quality of Life,’ reflecting on the emerging technology and rapid changes that are occurring in the Gulf region. 

The conference, held in Qatar for the first time, also focuses on the role and responsibility of engineers in developing technology and preserving natural resources by eliminating environmental residuals in the GCC. 

The conference offers an opportunity to promote products, services, ideas as well as various roles of business electrical engineering in a comprehensive way.

An exhibition too would be held on the sidelines of the conference to showcase the products and services in the electric and electronic engineering industry.

“Qatar is keen in developing different areas of engineering, especially through research,” said Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, President of Kahramaa.   

He was addressing the conference on behalf of H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry. 

Engineers were urged to develop new means of research and innovation during the conference. 

“World is in need of engineering solutions. Qatar Foundation is working on developing applied research on four areas as energy, environment, health and Information Technology. Currently 50 companies are working on such research,” said Al Kuwari. 

The conference will discuss 150 papers on research proposals and research on subjects including renewable energy, telecommunications and information technology, electrical and electronics with the participation of many experts from different countries to explore the latest developments within the theme of the conference. 

Keynote lectures are delivered on “Visual Language Processing of Ancient Manuscripts: Converting Collections to Crystal Globes of the Past”, “How Power Electronics contribute to the Actual Energy Arena” and “Spectrum Scarcity, Cognitive Radio, and Free Space Optical Communications,” during the conference.  On Sunday the conference held a special forum for women in the filed of engineering.
