DOHA: Expressing “deep concern” over Amnesty International’s latest report that says it found that some workers who had suffered abuses were working for subcontractors employed by global companies including Qatar Petroleum, the Corporation said yesterday it was launching “thorough” investigation about the issue. “QP expresses deep concern at some labour issues that were included in the latest report of Amnesty International pertaining to the condition of workers of one of the subcontractors hired by QP’s contractor in one of its major projects, and will take that report into serious consideration while conducting a thorough investigation about these issues,” QP said in a statement.

Amnesty International officials, at a news conference here on Sunday, also named other global companies like Hyundai E & C and OHL Construction and said that some workers who had suffered abuses were working for their subcontractors.

QP said in its statement it is, and will always be, strongly committed to ensuring that the highest standards of personnel welfare are in place, and that effective policies and processes incorporating human rights criteria are developed and implemented upon its contractors and their subcontractors.
