DOHA: The National Day celebration events organised yesterday at Al Wakra Sports Club enthralled expatriates from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Students of Pakistan Education Centre, Shantiniketan Indian School, TNG School, Bhavan’s Public School and Bangladesh MHM School presented cultural programmes throughout the day.
“There are not many options available for single expatriates, especially workers. National Day celebrations give them chance to enjoy and break the boredom in their life,” said a Sri Lankan expatriate who was enjoying programmes in Al Wakra Sports Club with his two children. Expatriates also got the opportunity to enjoy folk dances and songs which reminded them of their culture.
“We are away from away from our family members and these kinds of programmes bring some element of entertainment in our life,” said an expatriate worker. “Every year I wait for this day eagerly because of cultural programmes presented throughout the day,” he said.
“Every day I follow the same routine of going to office in the morning and coming back to my residence in the evening. National Day broke my boring routine. On Thursday I came to this stadium instead of going to the office and I will be here till night. Pleasant weather has added to today’s festivities,” said another single expatriate.
