Doha: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Fisheries Department, participated in the 2030 Global Sustainable Development Goals Marathon, which is organised by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change as part of the World Cup activities.

Over 5,000 sea bass baby fish and 3,000 grouper fish were released into the sea for preserving the State’s fish stocks during the event.

Ibrahim Salman Al Muhannadi, Director of the Aquatic Research Center run by the Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Municipality, said that the center’s participation comes within the framework of cooperation with the relevant authorities to support and develop the strategic stock of fish in the country, by releasing a number of local fish in the country in reserves with the aim of breeding them.

The process of releasing young fish into the sea has been ongoing for more than a year, with the aim of increasing fish stocks.

The project is part of the second national development programme of national resources.

The ambitious programme helps the Fish Affairs Department at the Ministry in implementing the project of releasing larvae of local fish in high demand to ensure food security in the country.
