DOHA: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani officially inaugurated the Police College yesterday.
The college was founded following Emiri Decree No. 161 of 2013 and enrolled 115 citizens and 23 trainees from other Arab countries in the first batch. The academic activities of the college started a year ago.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several ministers and other dignitaries from Qatar and abroad.
Among those present were Qatar’s Minister of Youth and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali, Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Muhammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hamadi, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Major General (Pilot) Ghanim bin Shaheen Al Ghanim, Commander of Emiri Guards H E Staff Major General Huzaa bin Khalil Al Shahwani, and directors and officers from different departments of the Ministry of Interior, the armed forces and Lekhwiya. Delegations from other GCC and Arab countries also attended the event.
The Director General of Public Security, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, felicitated some prominent personalities who made great efforts for the college, on behalf of the Minister of Interior. They were poet Falih Mubarak Al Ajlan Al Hajiri, who wrote the college anthem, Captain Abdullah Dhamn Al Mohannadi and Muhammad Al Marzouqi.
The opening ceremony started with the national anthem, followed by a military parade by the students. The Director General of the Police College, Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Muhana Al Marri, delivered the introductory speech. He said that the opening of the college was a great achievement to be added to other accomplishments by Qatar in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
He said the institution was ready to train military cadres to serve and secure the nation and contribute to its development.
The dignitaries appreciated the efforts made by individuals and organisations for the establishment of the college. Among them were Major General Dr Abdullah Yousuf Al Mal, Adviser to the Interior Minister, Major General Abdul Aziz Abdullah Abdullah Al Ansari, Director of International Cooperation Department, Brigadier Abdullah Salim Al Ali, Director General of General Directorate of Nationality, Borders and Expatriates Affairs, Brigadier Muhammad Saad Al Kharji, Director General of Public Directorate of Traffic, Brigadier Rashid Shaheen Al Ateeq, Director of Control and Inspection Department, Brigadier Muhammad Ahmad Al Ateeq, Assistant Director of General Directorate of Nationality, Borders and Expatriates Affairs and Brigadier Hussain Hasan Al Jaber, Director of Human Resource Department.
The delegates from other countries lauded Qatar for providing quality military education in the Arab region.
Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina said that the opening of the Police College in Qatar marked a great accomplishment for the Arab countries in policing and security services.
The Assistant Director General of Public Security in Jordan, Dr Mahmoud Hussain Abu Jumaa, the Director General of King Fahd Security College in Saudi Arabia, Major General Saad bin Abdullah Al Khulaiwi, the Director General of Palestine Police Major General Hazim Atta Allah, the Director General of Academy of Saad Al Abdullah for Security Sciences in Kuwait, the Assistant Director of Abu Dhabi Police, Lt-Colonel Khalid Abdullah Al Khori, the head of London’s Metropolitan Police, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, and the British Ambassador to Qatar, Nicholas Hopton, were among the foreign dignitaries at the opening ceremony.
